When The Rubber Hits The Road (Stay or Go)

Nothing's Changed

A friend and former classmate of mine considered the possibility many of us have dared not. What if Trump wins the election? What kind of country will we become? What does that mean that America already is? Many have said in jest that they would leave. My friend has considered this and wrote this letter. Read it, share it and please… discuss it:

“Where the Rubber Hits the Road

There is one fundamental truth, regarding the Birth of the United States.  It was founded on a Constitutional Lie.  The Lie was “…that all Men are created equal…”  Then a Second Lie was conceived to cover up for the first Lie:  “American Slaves of African Decent are only 3/5 Men.”   Furthermore, it tremendously benefited from an Economy which was totally built upon Stolen Free Labor over 246 years, making the U.S. extremely prosperous and the envy of the rest of Free World.

Based on these Falsehoods and Centuries of Stolen Labor, the United States has been paying for those Original Sins with continual Racial Strife and Animosity for 240 years.  Well, the Chickens have finally come Home to Roost with the Racist, Anti-Democracy, & Fascist U.S. Presidential Candidacy of Donald Trump.

Not since before the U.S. Civil War have we seen Citizens boldly and openly professing Anarchy, Sedition, and vicious threats of Assassination and Violence.   This Election and its outcome may very well portend, the beginning of a Race based extremely violent Second U.S. Civil War.  If it does not, we are surely watching the Death of U.S. Democracy as we now know it.  This is all heralding the beginning of Fascism, within the United States.

Dr. W.E.B. DuBois (see the Wikipedia Web Link below), my Fellow Fisk University Alumnus who has been called the Greatest Race Man in the History of African-America, once predicted “The problem of the 20th Century, is the problem of the Color-Line.”  Little did Dr. DuBois know, it would also become a continuing problem of both the 21st and 22nd Centuries.  This is all the result of those Original Sins, highlighted during the creation of this Country.

After almost 100 years of personal struggle for Racial Equality for African-Americans, Dr. DuBois came to a stark realization.  The United States would never ever do right by us or grant the equality, we so rightfully have earned and fully deserve.

With this conclusion, he knew he must depart the Land of his Birth and his Ancestors.  As I learned even more about Dr. DuBois while at Fisk, he became a personal Hero for his tremendous level of Race Consciousness and the ability to very effectively speak for all of our people.

This decision to leave took him back to our Ancestral Motherland relocating into Accra, Ghana West Africa.  There he happily lived out the last days of his Life, revered and highly respected by his African Brothers and Sisters.  He is buried there at the W.E.B. DuBois Home & Memorial Centre.

In light of what has transpired during this U.S. Presidential Election, I can relate to exactly to how Dr. DuBois felt.  What is happening now no longer makes it feel like the Land of the Free and Home of the Brave, I grew up in.  It is beginning to feel more and more, like a totally Foreign Country and a pseudo Banana Republic.

As I talk to my Friends and College Classmates, they are all pretty much expressing feelings of anxiousness and anxiety.  Why so?  All because of Donald Trump and his Racist and Xenophobic Campaign, as well as, those Violence threatening Supporters.  No one should ever have to live like this, anywhere or any place.

But it is now happening right here in the U.S. of A.  I will have to ask myself if Donald Trump is elected, whether his Dark Racist, and Xenophobic Vision (and that of his Supporters) for our Country is something that I can ever accept?  For me the resounding answer is no, and so it will be time for my family and I to venture on to Greener and more Democratic Pastures outside the U.S.

I know some will say the U.S. is the best Country in the World!  Really, why so?  May I ask how many who say this have a valid U.S. Passport, and have traveled extensively outside the U.S.?  As someone who has been blessed to travel to many Countries around the World, I am exposed enough to know that the U.S. is not necessarily the best.  There are other Countries (like in Scandinavia) which have higher Standards of Living, and their Citizens lives Healthier and longer Lives.

Yes, during the Campaign I have already begun to look at my options for living outside the U.S.   As a Beach Lover, it would be only in Countries located on the Ocean that would work for me.  Two Countries which have really tweaked my interest are:  Belize (as English is also the primary Language) and Ghana, West Africa (my and Dr. DuBois’ Ancestral Home).

Once the Election is over, the decision will have been made by the U.S. Voting Public and for us.  Just know I will always be a U.S. Citizen, but will have made a conscious choice to no longer live within the U.S. if Donald Trump is elected President.  There is a huge difference between being driven out of the Country, and choosing to leave of your own volition.  If I do it is my hope, to live out the rest of my Life there in productivity and happiness much like my Hero Dr. DuBois.  It is my ultimate hope the United States will in the end, choose Hope over Hate.”
