I grew up with a deep respect for the FBI. Perhaps I’m telling my age but as a child when there were only CBS, ABC and NBC to choose from. Sunday night television watching was Mission Impossible and “The FBI” starring  Efrem Zimbalist Jr. I watched the “good guys” win every week taking down killers and bank robbers. Making America safer with each episode.

While I’ve been under no illusion about the infiltration of many local police departments by the Alt-Right and those having much in common with the Klan if not members themselves. We’ve seen their E-mails and read their tweets where they refer to Black people in a derogatory way. Demonstrating that racism is alive and well within their ranks. We keep hearing what a small percentage of bad apples exist on the force. It the rest know who they are and don’t turn them in. I say they’re all tainted. We’ve seen how they implement policies like Stop & Frisk. We know about disproportionate percentages of traffic stops and unfair sentencing. Perhaps I should have but I never lumped the FBI into the same category. I thought them better.

In recent days we’ve learned more about the inner workings of the FBI than perhaps ever before. They are in a Civil War and their leader James Comey is not in control. A group of agents within the FBI have violated policies and laws in an attempt to influence the election. We learned there is a segment of the FBI population that gets their information from Breitbart and other Alt-Right publications which they do not distinguish from the truth. The FBI is just as bad as any local police force in terms of having members that have no business with the power they hold. When they went after Dr. Martin Luther King I attributed it to a misguided leader, J. Edgar Hoover. I was a child when they infiltrated the Black Panther Party and tried to disrupt the Civil Rights movement. I blamed Hoover while still respecting the institution. I now realize the body is infected, to what extent we may never know.

We now have James Comey affirming the E-mail investigation is over, no charges, no indictment. I don’t believe the flow of information leaks from the infected body will have the intended effect. Hillary Clinton will still be elected President despite the efforts of the segment of the FBI that shared goals with Putin to keep her from office. When the election is over, the disease will remain. I’m hoping  James Comey will prove the integrity always attributed to him and root them out. Whether it be the last act of the outgoing Barack Obama or the first of the  new Clinton administration. They cannot be left to fester, taking out their rage in other forms in line with their warped beliefs. Trumpland is alive and well within the FBI. We’ll now see if the will exists to root them out and excise them? Or do we pretend they don’t exist and look the other way? It’s time for a change!
